To work around the existing trees
The site is a long vacant concreted space with large existing trees. It is located between a road and a police colony on either side. The challenge was to retain all the existing trees and create spaces within, for the local people to use for various activities throughout the day and to un-concrete the whole site and create maximum area for plantation of native species.
The design proposal for the site in support with Pune Municipal Corporation serves the idea of a serpentine pathway around the existing trees. Bold concave curves marks the design approach for the site. On one side, the curve gives an opportunity of a beautiful plantation that makes the walk interesting and on the other side, of larger play areas designed for kids, interactive spaces for the elderly where one celebrates the linearity of the site and legacy of fully grown species of trees, a rare view in the growing urbanization.
Bold concrete seats have been used to complement the design. The hardscape is marked by concentric pattern in the paving that follows the serpentine pathway. Softscapes is given special importance in the site by creating maximum green that takes the shape of plantation, mounds and lawns. Native species of plantation has been proposed in response to retain the character of the site.
